Accident: Fire
Location: 12 nautical miles northwest of Jeju, South Korea
Casualties/Pollution: Nil
Cargo Onboard: Timber
En route: The Russian Far East to Shanghai

The engine room of the timber carrier suddenly caught fire that extended to the whole aft part.  The whole large part in the superstructure caught fire.  The crew used firefighting to get rid of the flames from the cargo.

Two firefighting tugs were sent to the scene to assist the crew in firefighting.  It took several hours to bring the fire under control.  The vessel remained afloat as there was a serious damage in its engineering and propulsion system.  The local authorities inspected the vessel.  Estimating that there might be no re-eruption of fire, the vessel was towed to Seogwipo in Jeju island where the vessel will be repaired.

The reports say that all the 15 crew members were safe.  An investigation for the cause of the fire is underway while the preliminary investigation states that the fire erupted due to busted fuel pipe in the engine room.
