According to an article published by Wlox, the U.S. Coast Guard continued efforts Monday morning to remove an oil tanker that ran aground near Petit Bois Island.

What happened?

On April 21, Coast Guard officials said the vessel ran aground at 11:52 a.m., just minutes before it was set to arrive at the Port of Pascagoula.

Tanker grounded

The tanker is a crude oil tanker from Liberia named Aqualoyalty. It was reportedly carrying 21 million gallons of Colombian crude oil at the time.

According to Lt. JG Justin Lee with the Coast Guard, the tanker is not grounded on the island but on the Number 12 Horn Island buoy, which sits between Horn and Petit Bois Islands. The tanker is located closest to Petit Bois.

No pollution

Lee said there have been no signs of pollution. He also added that Pollution responders and investigators are inspecting the area and monitoring the tank level for any signs that the tank is leaking.
