Tanker Breaks Down in Outer Hebrides

On June 6, a tanker loaded with gas oil broke down off the Outer Hebridean island due to gearbox failure.

What happened?

The 420 foot tanker ‘Levoli Black’ carrying a payload of gas oil broke down off the Outer Hebridean island of Barra.

There were fourteen crew members onboard the vessel when it suffered a gearbox failure and was located 12 miles off Barra.

Help dispatched

The HM Coastguard Emergency Towing Vessel was dispatched as a precautionary measure and the tanker is currently cruising towards the Barra port for further repairs.

Once it arrives at the port, further survey will be carried out and it will be allowed to set sail towards its destination.
