30-foot Fall into an Empty Ballast Water Tank

On March 14, a man was critically injured after falling into the cargo hold of a vessel docked at the Marine terminal.

The man was inspecting the vessel ‘Denebola’, a 947-foot Algol-class vehicle cargo ship docked at North Locust Point Marine Terminal.

The man has been identified as a 58-year-old contractor who was seriously injured in a 30-foot fall into an empty ballast water tank on a U.S. Navy Ready Reserve Fleet ship in Locust Point.

Rushed to hospital

The man injured his femur during the fall and was rescued by the Maryland Port Administration and Baltimore Fire Department. He was provided first aid and was rushed to a hospital in Baltimore for further treatment.

Investigation initiated

An investigation has been launched into the incident to determine the sequence of events leading to his fall.
