Container Ship Damages Lock Wall

A container ship contacted the wall at New North Lock in Brunsbuettel, while entering the Kiel Canal on Aug 1, reports Maritime Bulletin.

What happened?

Container ship BOMAR VALOUR contacted the wall at New North Lock in Brunsbuettel, while entering Kiel Canal, at around midday Aug 1. 

Delay in handling the stern mooring line was reported to be the cause for the accident.

Damages reported

According to local reports, the lock wall was severely damaged, suffering a hole or dent of 10×1 meters, 4 meters deep, size. The ship was also said to sustain slight damages.

Continued her voyage

She was allowed to continue her voyage from Bremerhaven to Helsinki, where she arrived in the morning, Aug 4.
