NYK lines (Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha) and MOL (Mitsui O.S.K Lines) both Japan-based companies placed an order with Chubu Electric Power for two LNG vessels each. They have also concluded finalizing the deal for long-term charger plans through joint-venture companies that each of them are established with Chubu Electric Power.
The JV company established between MOL and Chubu was to ready two LNG carrier vessels. First, an 180,000 cbm Sayaringo STaGE carrier would be built by Imabari Shipbuilding as well as Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. Second, a 177,000 cbm vessel is to be built by Kawasaki Heavy Industries. Both these ships are scheduled for delivery by 2018.
The JV company established between NYK Lines and Chubu on a 50-50 partnership basis were named the “Trans-Pacific Shipping 6 Limited” and ”Trans-Pacific Shipping 7 Limited” and each concluded shipbuilding contracts entered with MI LNG and Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. respectively.
It is believed that the two new ships after delivery in 2018, shall be managed by NYK for transporting LNG for a 20-year tenure. Chubu Electric Power Co. has an equity interest in the same. NYK’s medium-term management plan is all about NYK continuing its efforts to be a part of stable and economical LNG transport.
