Jim McDonough, the Scottish fisherman, has presented an epically huge, well-detailed Lego Navy boat, which is nothing less than a legend.  His passion for the Lego, boats and naval history has resulted in a replica of the iconic WWII vessel. He has spent the past three years in building the 1:40 scale replica of the USS Missouri.  This battleship is an Iowa-class that fought in the Pacific Theater, at Iwo Jima and Okinawa, and where the Japanese surrendered to the United States.  She was also involved in the Korean War, before getting decommissioned.  However, in the mid-80s, it was again reactivated and provided support during Operation Desert Storm.  Finally, it was decommissioned in 1992 and now adorns the museum at Pearl Harbor.

This USS Missouri is made up of 10,000s of pieces making it stand at 4ft 6 inches high, 3ft wide and a massive 24ft 3 inches long that it sticks out of the garage.  The stern crane is motorized; the bridge has lights and has many guns.  McDonough’s other creations consist of 4.3m Japanese destroyer, a 3m Japanese military transport, a Star Wars X-wing fighter and many more. All these models are all built without glue.

He states that “I don’t use glue, and everything can be taken apart.  If you go to Legoland it’s all glued together, which to me is cheating because anyone can glue stuff together.”

USS Saratoga is his next project.
