Drillship Accident Kills One; Investigations Underway

No other injuries were reported at the site. The Officials of the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement(BSEE) and the Coast Guard rushed to the site and started the investigations.On Tuesday morning, around 9.15 a.m., a worker on the drillship at the Gulf of Mexico died. The Pacific Santa Ana drillship was preparing to bore a well for Chevron and has just started the operations, when an employee of the drilling contractor was badly injured.
BSEE said that the operations have been shut down at the site. Houston-based Pacific Drilling said it was “actively addressing the needs of (the worker’s) family and the affected employees.Our prayers and thoughts are with the family of our colleague and our Pacific Drilling family closely associated with him.”
Chevron, the operator, has 36 percent working interest while BP and ConocoPhillips have 34 percent and 30 percent interest respectively.
