Over the New Year’s period there is less sales activity.  Tanker rates had a strong platform to start 2016.  But have fallen marginally as have the values particularly in larger tonnage.  A single Suezmax has been sold by DHT to Nissen Kaiun – the DHT Trader (152,900 DWT, 2000 built, HHI).  The vessel was sold for $26.5m, marginally above current market expectations.

The BDI had hit another all time low.  The Nord Power, a 2005 built Universal (176,000 DWT) had sold for $12.25m.  Scorpio have had a busy week offloading both of their 2016 delivery Daehan Capes (180,000 DWT) (SBI Monterry and SBI Behike) to Frontline for $34m each.

Scorpio have also sold three Sungdongs (SBI Montesino and SBI Magnum [both 180,000 DWT, 2015 built] and SBI Camacho [179,300 DWT, 2015 built also]) to Anangel Maritime for $33m per vessel.  Container values have experienced nominal drops for all tonnage however there are no sales to report and rates have risen week on week over the New Year following general rate increases.
