New digital suite to cut fuel consumption
New modules have been added to ABB Ability Tekomar Xpert to form a group of digital solutions to help reduce bunker costs and ship emissions.
By using Tekomar Xpert to provide insights into vessel performance, up to 20% fuel and emissions reductions can be achieved.
Improve carbon intensity index (CII) ratings
Tekomar Xpert now has three modules covering the engine, hull and propeller, and emissions. ABB said information from this suite enables vessels to achieve improved carbon intensity index (CII) ratings.
ABB has added the hull, propeller and emissions modules to the existing Tekomar Xpert engine module, which is already optimising the performance of more than 8,000 engines in operation.
The emissions module enables the CII rating and CO2 emissions to be accurately forecast, enabling emissions reporting in line with IMO and European Union’s monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) requirements.
This module provides automated MRV reports based on electronic logbook data. The actual CII ranking and its simulation is based on the vessel’s operating parameters and historic data.
Deliver real customer value
Tekomar Xpert hull and propeller module provides information into the vessel’s performance in real time. It enables an accurate assessment of defouling requirements, which ABB said can have a significant impact on a vessel’s performance and will reduce fuel consumption.
“Tekomar Xpert marine raises our digital offering to a new level by adding the hull and propeller, and emissions modules to our engineroom offering,” said ABB Turbocharging vice president for digital customer solutions Cristian Corotto.
“These combined analytics deliver real customer value through enabling greater efficiencies. For example, fuel savings of up to 3 tonnes per day can be achieved by optimising engine performance alone, which translates to some 9 tonnes of CO2 emissions per day,” he explained.
“Just as important is the system’s delivery of information needed to support decision-making related to the optimal timing of cleaning events, and the identification of the root cause of reduced propulsion efficiency. Tekomar Xpert marine customers are ready for the next level of data-driven decision making.”
Results are immediately available to shipowners
Results of analyses from all the three modules are immediately available to shipowners and operators, and the solution can be integrated to work with existing data collection systems without the need to install additional hardware.
The expanded digital analytics offering promotes benchmarking, historic tracking and forecasting.
