Yokohama Daikoku Terminal To Begin Its Operation Using Renewable Energy

536

From April 2022, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K” LINE) and Daito Corporation (Daito) will operate the first dedicated finished vehicle terminal in Japan, at Yokohama Daikoku C-4 Terminal as reported by ‘K” Line.

Work facility

On April 5th, “IVORY ARROW,” a pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) operated by “K” LINE, made its inaugural call at the terminal. We had a safety prayer service with the terminal operators and an opening celebration with several associated parties on April 15th.

In order to meet a variety of purposes, the terminal is used not only as an export and transhipment base for finished cars (new and used vehicles) but also to handle a wide variety of vehicles such as break-bulk cargoes by utilising a work facility with a big roof in the terminal. Furthermore, the terminal will use electricity supplied from renewable energy sources, which emit nearly no CO2.

GHG emissions

The terminal will purchase 100% wind-generated renewable energy from UPDATER Corporation’s “Minna-Denryoku” blockchain-based electricity traceability service (a service for designating the power plants from which electricity is acquired). Last November, “K” LINE updated a section of our long-term environmental guideline, “K” LINE Environmental Vision 2050″ (Note 1), and set a new aim for 2050: “The challenge of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.” We will work to increase our corporate value by contributing to the economy and society’s long-term sustainability while also safeguarding the environment through our business activities.
