The Harvard Study of Adult Development has been following the lives of hundreds of Americans for 84 years. Robert Waldinger, the organization’s director, is now sharing what he’s learned about happiness and health from it, as reported by The Guardian.

Mind-body Connections

The researchers didn’t really believe it when data from the world’s longest-running study on happiness began to suggest that having close relationships kept people healthier and happier in the 1980s. According to Dr Robert Waldinger, the 84-year-old head of the Harvard Study of Adult Development, “We know there’s a mind-body connection, and we all give lip service to it. But how may having friendlier interactions reduce your risk of developing arthritis or coronary artery disease? How could partnerships alter our physiology and enter our bodies? Then, similar results were found in additional investigations. “We concluded that we can start to feel confident about this discovery.”
