After lashing parts of Japan in the past few days, typhoon Khanun has made landfall along South Korea’s southern coast today, which could impact operations across South Korean ports.

Landfall Impact

Typhoon Khanun has made landfall in South Korea’s southeastern port city of Geoje this morning. Khanun “is on course to traverse the entire peninsula during the day bringing heavy rain and strong winds,” South Korean meteorological agency Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) says.

The intensity of Khanun is predicted to diminish to “medium” from “strong,” KMA adds.

Bunker Deliveries Impact

All port operations have been suspended in South Korean ports of Pyeongtaek, Dangjin, Ulsan, Onsan and Yeosu till 11 August, a source says. Bunker deliveries scheduled during this period will be affected, the source adds.

Besides, a typhoon alert has been issued in ports of Busan, Daesan and Taean between 8-10 August, which could disrupt bunker operations there as well.

Meanwhile, another tropical storm Lan is also approaching the region from the Pacific Ocean and is expected to hit the Japanese island of Honshu next week. It is forecast to intensify over the weekend, according to US-based Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC).
