Recently, Damen’s customer Gerdes Green obtained a subsidy from the German government while working together with Cargill in an unprecedented move. Concerning Namkü directive in Germany emphasizing modernization of coastal vessels’ emissions reduction, this Initiative is in line with that.

Gerde’s Green intends to use the subsidy towards improving the performance of CF 3850 vessels. These characteristic components are; the battery-driven propulsion system makes it suitable for silent sailing within certain parts of the sea, ventofoils that can be folded up for wind-assisted sail, they are also compatible with B100 biodiesel, and lastly,

Damen together with Gerdes Green and Cargill formed a partnership which resulted in the creation of the Damen CF 3850 Hybrid. Gerdes Green’s approach is based on working together with charters towards green ships, offering eco ship owners, environmentally neutral supply-chains”.
Strides Towards Carbon Neutrality
This is a major move, which is part of Gerdes Green’s plan to come up with neutral fleets. These vessels are set to contribute significantly towards minimising the environmental effect associated with European Short Sea Shipping thereby creating an enabling environment for climate-efficient supply chains that will set the platform for further improvement in the field of maritime efficiencies.
