Recently, RINA granted Approval in Principle certification for the Carbon Capture System designed for Marine Use, developed by COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry Technology (Weihai) Co., Ltd, reports i Marine.
Supergravity Carbon Capture System
Throughout the authentication process, RINA facilitated expert-led technical audits on each unit of the shipborne supergravity carbon capture system. The audits specifically scrutinized aspects such as the safety of the ship’s crew, operational safety of the system, and energy efficiency. Subsequently, RINA confirmed that the shipborne supergravity carbon capture system, as developed by COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry Technology (Weihai), fully adheres to RINA specifications.
Issues Solved
The Carbon Capture System integrates high-gravity technology with absorption-desorption methods, effectively addressing the shortcomings of traditional tower equipment for carbon capture. Notably, it tackles issues related to large volume and weight, low mass transfer efficiency, and high energy consumption.
