Due to the nature of their work, seafarers might not always celebrate Christmas, or any occasion with their families and loved ones. Sailors’ Society, a charity organization recognizes this challenge faced by the maritime workers and launches a Christmas appeal to alleviate their separation.
Peer-to-Peer Support Groups
The charity’s initiative centres around peer-to-peer support groups, offering seafarers the opportunity to connect, share experiences, and find support during the festive season. With almost 100 groups established over the past four years, these gatherings provide a lifeline for those at sea.
Wide Range of Support
Sailors’ Society extends its support beyond general seafarer groups, offering specialized support for females, captains, families, cadets, and individuals affected by conflicts like the one in Ukraine. These groups create a sense of community and friendship, especially crucial during the holiday season.

The CEO states, “It allows seafarers to be a supportive community while they are at sea, something that can be vital in an increasingly isolated profession. Sailors’ Society is a charity and we rely on fundraising to carry out our work with seafarers and their families. This appeal will not only help us to support seafarers this Christmas but throughout the year.”
