  • Monaco-based shipping giant, Scorpio Tankers, is set to transform its fleet’s environmental impact by entering a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Fowe Eco Solutions (FOWE).
  • This collaboration aims to implement FOWE’s revolutionary fuel emulsion systems across Scorpio’s extensive fleet of over 100 vessels, promising a significant reduction in fuel costs and carbon emissions.

Scorpio Tankers Embraces Sustainable Maritime Practices

Monaco-based Scorpio Tankers has taken a bold step towards sustainability by initiating a partnership with Fowe Eco Solutions (FOWE). The shipping company, known for its extensive fleet of over 100 vessels, has signed a non-binding MoU to install FOWE’s cutting-edge fuel emulsion systems, signaling a commitment to reducing its environmental footprint.

FOWE’s Innovative Technology Showcases Environmental and Economic Benefits

Scorpio Tankers began testing FOWE’s emulsion fuel bunkers in 2022, with continuous operation on two vessels since December 2022. FOWE’s Cavitech device allows vessels to produce emulsified bunkers on board without the use of additives, ensuring stable and permanent emulsions. The move is expected to result in a notable reduction of at least 3% in fuel costs and an annual cut of 100,000 tons of carbon emissions.

Economic and Environmental Advantages of FOWE’s Solution

The terms of the licensing agreement indicate no significant upfront costs for Scorpio Tankers. The FOWE system is praised for its immediate financial and environmental benefits, requiring minimal initial investment and eliminating the need for installation downtime. Scorpio Tankers aims to have all its vessels operating with FOWE’s technology by the end of 2024, showcasing a commitment to sustainable and economically viable maritime practices.

FOWE’s Positive Impact on Sustainability Goals

Recent tests at Alfa Laval demonstrated the potential of FOWE’s emulsion fuel, with savings of up to 8.7% in bunker consumption and lower NOx emissions. Scorpio Tankers’ Chairman and CEO, Emanuele Lauro, emphasized the clear and immediate advantages of FOWE’s solution, positioning it as an ideal pathway to reduce operating expenses and curb greenhouse gas emissions. The final licensing agreement is expected to be signed in the first quarter of 2024, solidifying Scorpio Tankers’ dedication to a sustainable and eco-friendly maritime future.
