Fostering Sustainability In València’s Ports

193

The Port Authority of València (PAV) has embarked on a visionary mission to transform its port into a 100% green port, aligning with its operating area’s zero emissions environmental strategy. Central to this endeavour is the Ecoport II initiative, where 32 participating companies have voluntarily committed to significant environmental objectives and achieved remarkable results in waste recovery, resource conservation, and emissions reduction.

Environmental Objectives and Achievements

Under Ecoport II, participating companies have set nine key environmental objectives, including waste recovery, water and fuel consumption reduction, adoption of alternative energy sources, and carbon footprint calculation. Remarkable achievements include a 75% increase in waste recovery, a 13% reduction in water consumption, an 8% decrease in fuel consumption, and a 13% cut in electricity usage, among others. These efforts have not only reduced environmental impact but also promoted a circular economy and fostered sustainable practices within the port community.

Alignment with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The companies within Ecoport II have undertaken a self-diagnosis of their contributions to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), highlighting actions aligned with SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 7 (Affordable and Non-Pollutant Energy), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 14 (Life Below Water). These initiatives demonstrate a collective commitment to fostering a more sustainable and equitable future while addressing pressing global challenges.
