Cargo Ship Rescues an Injured British Sailor

On late Friday, an injured British sailor was rescued and taken onboard a cargo ship from his broken yacht.

The sailor, Richard Tolkien, was advised to abandon his ship by his shore crew and race officials after an assessment through a satellite phone.

The sailor part of the Transat bakerly trans-Atlantic race suffered a head injury while trying to clear a sail after part of the rigging was damaged.

Tolkien is due into Philadelphia on Wednesday.

The race is from Plymouth, England, to Brooklyn and there have been four other retirements due to boat damage and a retirement due to a boat colliding with a cargo ship.
