Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, a unit of the Wärtsilä technology group, has been awarded its order to provide cargo handling and fuel gas supply systems for four new medium-sized gas carriers. These are built at the Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering (SOE) shipyard in Shanghai and will be operated by the Greek company Capital Gas Ship Management. The order was booked during the third quarter of 2024, reports Wärtsilä.

Leading in MGC Gas Systems

This order has strengthened Wärtsilä’s position as the world’s leading supplier of gas handling and fuel systems for mid-size gas carriers.

The vessels to be supplied, with a capacity of 40,000 cbm, will mainly carry liquefied petroleum gas, and thus require sophisticated handling systems. Wärtsilä equipment is designed to assure safe and efficient handling and operations for this type of cargo and fuel because of safety and performance standards tolerated in the industry.

A Milestone in Partnership with SOE and Capital Gas

Wärtsilä has been working at the SOE shipyard for many years providing a range of gas-related systems. However, this is the first project Capital Gas Ship Management has undertaken on its vessels.

Barry Yang, the Wärtsilä Gas Solutions sales manager in China, emphasized the significance of this order by saying “We have a long-term relationship with SOE, having delivered a variety of gas-related products and systems. Being awarded this repeat order is very important to us since it indicates a high level of customer satisfaction.”

Delivery Timeline

The shipyard is expected to receive the Wärtsilä equipment starting in March 2026. This will allow for the timely installation and functioning of the systems.
