Ferry Allided with Quay in Pendik

On May 15, a ferry allided with a wharf in Pendik during a berthing maneuver due to technical issues.

What happened?

The ferry ‘Fatih Sultan Mehmet 1’ was coming from Yalova, allided with a wharf in Pendik during a berthing maneuver.

The vessel increased speed and hit the quay due to a technical malfunction and was finally able to dock at the wharf.

Passengers injured

During the allision, 168 passengers and 8 crew members were onboard the vessel and out of which 11 passengers were slightly injured. The ferry was also carrying 11 passenger cars during the time of allision.

Passengers rescued

A large number of rescue personnel were deployed to the scene of the incident. The first aid treatments were carried out in ambulances and the injured were transferred to the hospital.

The remaining passengers and cars were safely discharged from the vessel under the supervision of the ship crew and duty terminal team. The ferry ramp and the hull plating suffered structural damages. The damages sustained by the ferry terminal quay during the allision were noted down for further reference.
