Nautilus International, a leading seafarer union and Spinnaker Global, a recruitment specialist have joined hands in conducting a research for assessing the shore-based demand for skilled seafarers.
The demand for seafarers has changed a great deal where approximately 1.2 million people are employed at sea in world’s merchant fleet. The total global demand for seafarers is linked with global demand for maritime transport and technological changes. This calls for a varied skill sets from the seafarers. These skill sets range from the operation of ships to the effective running of the broader maritime industry.
Spinnaker Global, a recruitment specialist is hoping to appraise the needs and the importance of maritime skills emphasized by the industry. It aims to explore the requirements of a wide range of shore-based industries and services. They are attempting to assess the demand, its supply and substitute for seafaring experience.

The published results of the survey would be used as insights for the seminar on the supply and demand for skilled seafarers, hosted by Nautilus International during London International Shipping Week (7th September).
