At Seaforth Docks, a 22-year-old worker fell down a hatch of a ship and broke his leg.  The incident is reported to have happened by yesterday afternoon local time and the rescue team placed him in a basket stretcher, stabilised his leg and removed him from the middle deck using the ship’s crane and cage.

Though his injuries are not life-threatening, he was rushed to the Aintree University Hospital for treatment.

Watch Manager Colin Finlinson said: “This was a great example of agencies working together to bring this man to safety.”

“When we arrived we gave the man oxygen and made the scene safe while awaiting paramedics.”

“Together with paramedics we were able to extract the man from the scene using a basket stretcher and the ship’s equipment.”
