A Ship With 6,000 Tons Of Cement Catches Fire!

A short circuit by personal appliances in crew room damaged the cement carrier.

The 8,830 DWT vessel carrying 6000 tons of cement on board caught fire at the dock in Port of Salalah, Oman.  The ship that was built in 1979 in Japan and managed by Greek shipowner was docked in the Port of Salalah, Oman.  The port authorities dispatched two firefighting teams on receiving the distress call.  The firefighters fought for over five hours to bring the flames under control.

Reports say that during the cargo handling operations, a short circuit by personal appliances in crew room induced the fire that spread wide.  There is no clear information about damage.  The vessel is under evaluation.  It will take some time to resume its voyage.  Authorities say that the vessel will be completely inspected and surveyed for seaworthiness.
