2057

A coastal tanker loaded with lubricating oil collided with a gravel carrier off Umihotaru in Tokyo Bay, Japan.  The 92 ton coastal tanker suffered a damage to its hull and sank by the stern immediately.  Only the forepeak was visible after water ingress.

The rescue team rescued all 3 crew on board the tanker.  No reports of injuries to the crew on both the ships.

Authorities have identified a large oil sheen around the wreck.  The pollution extends to several kilometres.  It’s reported that maritime authorities have dispatched pollution control vessels to the scene. Authorities have also released chemical dispersants.

Investigation on the cause of collision is underway.
