Aframax Tankers Runs Aground in Suez Canal

According to GAC.com, two Aframax tankers ran aground while transiting Suez Canal near the 132 kilometer mark, reports Maritime Bulletin. 

What happened?

Two Aframax tankers in ballast ran aground while transiting Suez Canal near the 132 kilometer mark, about to enter Great Bitter Lake in northbound convoy. According to GAC,  the tankers remain unidentified. 

  • The first tanker ran aground at 1010 LT (UTC +2) and was refloated at 1320 LT. According to News18, she suffered engine trouble in the canal and affected the marine traffic in the Suez canal for sometime. 
  • The second tanker ran aground later, as she was sailing in a 22-ships convoy behind the first tanker and remained aground.
