On Saturday, the Teekay Tankers owned crude oil tanker Tokyo Spirit ran aground outside the breakwater at the Cascais Marina near Lisbon, Portugal. The tugs responded immediately to free the unladen vessel at the next high tide early Sunday morning. A rescue process was underway for the 22 crew members onboard the ship. The AIS data reported that on October 14, the vessel arrived at an anchorage off Cascais.
The reports say that, earlier on Saturday, the wind gusts were recorded at a speed of 50 knots along with high seas at the Anchorage.
On Sunday afternoon, the tanker was refloated with the help of two tugs and towed to a local repair yard.
About the Ship:
- 2006-built tanker vessel was previously owned by Principal Maritime and was in the name of Princimar Loyalty.
- In the month of August 2015, Teekay Tankers acquired the entire fleet of 12 vessels from Principal Maritime.
- By the end of this month, the vessels will be delivered to Teekay Tankers.
- The tankers will operate in the spot tanker market soon after delivery.
