- PALS eliminates the need for continuously running compressors, reducing energy consumption.
- CoolCo aims for a 35% reduction in fleetwide carbon intensity.
Armada Technologies, a UK-based tech firm, has inked a contract with Cool Company (CoolCo), a Bermuda-based LNG carrier owner and operator.
The agreement entails the installation of an air lubrication system on one of CoolCo’s vessels scheduled for dry docking in 2024, reports Offshore Energy.
System Features
Armada’s advanced passive air lubrication system (PALS) is tailored to each ship’s characteristics, including speed, draft, and weather conditions.
Unlike traditional solutions, the PALS eliminates the need for continuously running compressors, reducing energy consumption.
The system operates in a semi-passive mode, enabling discreet control of system output and complete decoupling of system lubricity from ship speed.
Armada plans to optimize the system further using machine-learning algorithms based on sea trials and documentation provided by CoolCo.
CEO Statements
Armada CEO Alex Routledge expresses excitement about introducing PALS to the maritime industry and highlights the collaboration’s potential for optimizing the system.
CoolCo CEO Richard Tyrrell emphasizes the selection of Armada for its performance potential and minimal impact on crew due to the absence of rotating equipment.
Collaborative Efforts
Armada’s collaboration with CoolCo aligns with CoolCo’s commitment to reducing fleetwide carbon intensity and surpassing IMO targets for 2030.
CoolCo aims for a 35% reduction in fleetwide carbon intensity compared to 2019, with the partnership with Armada Technologies as a significant step towards achieving sustainability goals.
Previous Collaborations and Future Prospects
Armada Technologies previously entered a collaborative agreement with US provider Ecochlor for technical assistance and global sales and marketing support, showcasing its commitment to industry partnerships and innovation.
The partnership between Armada Technologies and CoolCo reflects a broader trend within the maritime sector towards adopting sustainable technologies to meet environmental targets and regulations.
