Bernhard Schulte – Making Waves in the Maritime Industry!

2207

The world is worried about the low oil prices and gloomy shipping market.  Many comment that the shipping and the global trade is in a dark phase.  Despite the darkness, some industry leaders emerge as a ‘ray of hope’ or a trendsetter.

MFAME published earlier in April 2016, where even in the gloomy market, Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) offered two other services under their portfolio.  They are both related to the service sector where one is lay-off service and the other is Green recycling.

In June 2016, MFAME has also published about BSM ships outperforms in meeting the most stringent environmental standards.

Here is one more piece of information where Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) has enhanced its training hub in Cyprus by adding new bridge and engine room simulators.  BSM has invested in a full mission bridge simulator with two separate 180-degree visualisation bridges.  These are fully equipped with various bridge systems, including ecdis, radar, VHF radio, and controls for engines and propulsion.

Salient Features:

  1. Can be used for training navigation, ship-handling, berthing and tug operations.
  2. Seafarers can also get trained for anchoring and mooring operations and also learn to use GMDSS and other radio communication devices.
  3. Simulators will allow to select from 40 different ship types and operating conditions reflecting at least 25 sea and port areas.
  4. Simulators can be used to train up to 6 students in machinery operations on individual sections.

With such a facility, BSM expects the simulators will be used to take cadets beyond the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping requirements.  Via this training, nautical and engineering officers will gain knowledge and improve the skills required to serve on board in today’s technology-led shipping environment, BSM said.  The simulators can also be used for external training for participants in Cyprus, and conducting tailor-made customer courses for deck and engineering officers.

“Training and the emphasis we place on career development of our sea staff is at the forefront of our philosophy,” said BSM corporate manager for training and development John Pritchett.  “BSM invested in facilities in Cyprus with the addition of this new equipment, which takes the centre to another level, and further promotes our ability as the leading training provider in the region. This also aligns the centre in Cyprus with our facilities in Manila and Mumbai.”
