The brain-eating amoeba that killed a 4-year old boy from St Bernard parish in 2013 has is again found outside New Orleans.

The amoeba called as Naegleria fowleri is capable of attacking the brain when it enters through the nose.

Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (LDHH) confirmed that the chlorine levels in drinking water wasn’t maintained up to the required standards.  The Parish officials have begun a 60-day chlorine burn to destroy the deadly pathogen from the drinking water.

According to the LDHH, the amoeba can cause Primary Amebic Meningoencephalitis (PAM), a disease that leads to the destruction of the brain tissue.
