A British registered chemical tanker vessel ‘Orakai’ with a cargo of 4732 tons of ethanol was tugged into the Cartagena port early Wednesday morning after running into engine problems on her way to Fos Sur Mer port in South of France.
The tanker vessel requested for help on Tuesday morning when it was stationed approximately 13 miles South-West of Calblanque. The rescue operations were hampered due to unfavourable weather conditions such as strong winds reaching 30 knots and choppy sea with waves reaching 3 metres. Finally, the rescue vessel ‘Clara Campoamor’ was dispatched for rescue operations and towed the tanker with 12 crew members aboard to the Cartagena port.
The chemical cargo on board the vessel was found to be intact and monitored closely throughout the emergency situation, no chemical spillage was reported.
