Brunvoll and Daehan Shipbuilding Partner on Thruster Package for Suezmax Tankers

164

Brunvoll has signed an agreement with Daehan Shipbuilding to supply a specialized thruster package for three Suezmax DP2 shuttle tankers currently under construction for Maran Tankers Management Inc., the tanker division of the Angelicoussis Group. Each vessel will feature a customized configuration of Brunvoll’s thrusters, ensuring powerful and precise maneuvering capabilities. The delivery includes one AR100 and two AR115 retractable azimuth thrusters, as well as one FU100 and one FU115 tunnel thrusters for each vessel, combining for a total power output exceeding 13,000 kW per tanker.

Vessel Specifications and Future Operations

The 154,000-deadweight-tonne tankers, measuring 276 meters in length, will be Daehan Shipbuilding’s new builds numbered 5801, 5802, and 5803. They are designed to meet the maximum dimensional requirements for passage through the Suez Canal, thus classifying as Suezmax vessels. Upon completion, these tankers are set to enter a long-term charter with the Brazilian energy company Petrobras.

Advanced Thruster Design for Increased Efficiency

The retractable azimuth thrusters from Brunvoll incorporate an innovative design that allows for service and maintenance without requiring the vessel to be dry-docked—a significant advantage given the large size of the shuttle tankers. This design feature addresses the logistical challenges that arise from booking drydocks for vessels of this magnitude. Additionally, the shuttle tankers’ long-term charter agreements often include costly off-hire clauses, making minimal downtime essential.

Remarks from Brunvoll’s Sales Leadership

Anders Ulvestad, VP Sales at Brunvoll AS, shared his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the high demand in the shuttle tanker market. He emphasized that the agreement underscores Brunvoll’s commitment to delivering specialized solutions and reliable service. Ulvestad expressed gratitude towards Maran Tankers and Daehan Shipbuilding for their trust and acknowledged the cooperative efforts of Tachyon Corporation and Alpha Marine Engineering, Brunvoll’s representatives in South Korea and Greece, respectively, for their role in securing this partnership.
