A 292m long capesize bulk carrier was proceeding in southern direction through the canal, but grounded into a sandy embarkment.  The vessel was en route from Yuzhniy, Ukraine to Egypt with cargo of iron ore, moving with dead slow ahead speed.  The vessel grounded as it lost propulsion power.  It was reported that the vessel re-floated after de-ballasting and with the help of tugs.  After salvage the vessel was anchored at Suez Anchorage for inspection and survey.

No reports of injury or pollution.  Investigation on the root cause of the accident is underway.
