On May 21, a cargo vessel carrying cars caught fire at a western South Korean port and the firefighters had a hard time controlling it.
What happened?
The cargo vessel identified as ‘A’ was anchored at the South Korean west port city of Incheon, carrying around 2,100 used cars bound for Libya. An unexpected fire broke out from the 52,422-ton cargo ship.
Firefighter fight blaze
The firefighters were called to control the blaze which erupted onboard the cargo vessel. Firefighters have been trying to control the blaze for about seven hours, as the cars inside the vessel were parked so closely that the flame spread easily and rapidly.
Furthermore, the cargo vessel was equipped with only one big gate astern, having little window and gate in other part of the ship, making it hard to put out the fire.
No casualties
The crew members onboard the vessel were reported to be safe and no casualties were reported. An investigation has been initiated to look into the accident and to determine the cause of fire.
