Chemical Tanker Collided With PSV In Kiel Canal

A chemical tanker collided with platform supply vessel(PSV) at Kiel Canal.  It is reported that the collision was due to human error – the duty officer of the tanker who tried to overtake the vessel at unsafe speed and hit the stern of PSV.

Both the vessel suffered damages.  The tanker suffered hull breach and dents in the forepeak, as well as damaged railings.  Also, the platform supply vessel got stern dents portside and some breaches of the hull, but above the waterline.

According to the reports, both the vessels remained afloat.  The repairs of the ships will be carried out at their next port.  The collision caused hindrances to the traffic for less than half an hour.  Fortunately, there were no reports of casualties nor pollution.

The Kiel Canal Authorities have started with their investigations to find the root cause of the incident.  The guilty vessel will be fined.
