China’s inaugural large domestic cruise ship, the Adora Magic City, prepares for its maiden voyage, marking a significant milestone after nearly eight years of research and five years of construction by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co, reports Marine Insight.
Completion and Delivery
Following its naming and delivery in Shanghai on November 4, the ship underwent meticulous installation and verification of over three million items, including medical equipment, artwork, and hotel amenities. With 1,292 crew members globally, preparations were underway for its smooth operation.
Operational Overview
Zhou Qi, the chief builder overseeing the creation of sizable cruise ships, emphasized the successful transition from construction to operational readiness. Adora Cruises, a collaboration between Carnival Corp and China State Shipbuilding Corp, took charge of its service.
Specifications and Capacity
Measuring 323.6 meters in length and weighing 135,500 tons, the ship boasts accommodation for 5,246 guests across 2,125 rooms. It offers an extensive array of 22 dining areas and bars for guests’ enjoyment.
Future Plans and Expansion
Guo Jia, the director of business development at Adora Cruises, outlined plans for international cruise routes originating from Shanghai, traversing renowned Northeast Asian destinations. There’s a vision for expanding these routes in the future.
Global Shipbuilding Achievement
The completion of the Adora Magic City has bridged the gap in China’s large domestic cruise industry, elevating the nation to the ranks of shipbuilding prowess held by France, Germany, Italy, and Finland, as the fifth country capable of developing such large cruise ships.
