Christening Celebrations For MSC Zoe

The Mediterranean Shipping Company(MSC), celebrated the christening ceremony for its Oscar class series third vessel – MSC Zoe on Sunday the 2nd of August  2015.  The 19,224 TEU Vessel progressed towards Hamburg, Germany and reached on 1st August for the celebrations.

Christening ceremony is considered as an important tradition and event for the ship and its crew.  The celebrations involved an exchange of the vessels crest, breaking a bottle of champagne against the ship’s hull and the ceremonial ribbon cutting on the bridge.

MSC’s earlier Oscar series vessels include MSC Oliver and MSC Oscar.  The company took delivery of the MSC Oliver in the month of March.  The MSC Oscar was inaugurated in DSME shipyard in Busan, South Korea.

The video shows the journey of the ship en route to Nauw Van Bath, Netherlands, watched by many passersby.

Highlights:

  • The ship is named after the daughter of MSC Cruises Executive Chairman Pierfrancesco Vago and MSC Group CFO Alexa Aponte Vago.
  • The ceremony scheduled on 2nd August witnessed the presence of the representatives of the vessel’s shipbuilders from South Korean, Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME), classification society DNV-GL, local authorities and financiers.
  • The vessel was built in Okpo, South Korea.
  • It operates on a SWAN service between Asia and North Europe.
