After completing the mapping of the accident site involving the Titan submersible, the U.S. Coast Guard initiated an investigation into the implosion that tragically claimed the lives of five individuals. This investigation holds the potential to recommend various measures, ranging from deep-sea diving regulations to potential legal actions pursued by authorities, as published in Washington Post.

The U.S. Coast Guard has convened a Marine Board of Investigation (MBI) to examine the implosion of the Titan submersible during its descent to the Titanic wreck site. Led by Coast Guard Capt. Jason Neubauer, the MBI aims to determine the cause of the incident and propose safety recommendations for submersibles. The board’s investigation includes salvage operations, interviews, and accountability aspects. Neubauer clarified that the MBI can suggest civil or criminal sanctions, but it is not a separate investigation for enforcement activities. Miawpukek Horizon Maritime Services, the owner of the Canadian vessel Polar Prince from which Titan was launched, is cooperating with authorities and refraining from public comments. While John Risley, a board member of Maritime Horizon, anticipates valuable lessons from the incident, he cannot speak on behalf of the company.
