Container Ship Made an Unexpected Stop to Save a Crew Member

On 27th October 2015 at 1.02am, RCC Bermuda got an information from the United States Coastguard District 5 in Norfolk, Virginia that a Portuguese registered vessel M/V Tabea, wished to divert to Bermuda to transfer ashore an injured crew member.
The 900-foot container ship, en-route from Brazil to New York wanted medical assistance for a crew member suffering from a deep facial wound. The ship was diverted to Bermuda where the 48-year-old Philippine national was transferred from the ship to the Pilot/Rescue Boat St David. From the rescue boat, the injured was then transferred to an awaiting ambulance at Ordnance Island.
