Strong Winds Struck Vessel In Chumphon

The container vessel was enroute from Bangkok to Surat Thani carrying 20 containers when it faced engine problems at sea. The three-metre-high waves and strong wind gusts about 300 metres from the coast of Ban Kor Son struck the vessel which was anchored for repairs.
As a result, the container ship ran aground. Unfortunately, the number of crew on board the vessel is unknown and the authorities have taken measures to find the number of crew and their safety.
Pol Maj Yothin Seehathip of Chumphon Marine Police Division said: “The First Navy Region has not been able to send in a ship to tow it back to sea as the strong waves and winds are not abating. I f a salvage effort was made now, it might damage the vessel.”
