Freighter Caught In Malaysia for Hit And Run Accident
A container vessel which involved in a hit and run accident was seized by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).
On Feb 18 in Singapore Strait off Batu Ayam, Malaysia a container vessel hit two tankers that were anchored some 2.7 nm off the coast. The hit damaged the tankers. The vessel en route from Hong Kong to India sailed with 16 crew members who were Sri Lankan and Indian nationals.
As the vessels entered the Indonesian waters the MMEA team along with the Singapore Coast Guard and the Indonesian Maritime Security Board caught her up. The collision also resulted in an oil spillage.
The ship was built in 1999 in Poland and managed by German company operating under the flag of Liberia. The owner was not immediately available for comment.
