An alarming news has been published in the Maritime Bulletin about a scuffle that ended in one crew stabbing the other. The victim has been severely wounded and is hospitalized while the perpetrator has been arrested.
What happened?
One of the crew stabbed the other inflicting severe injuries.
Tanker en route from Bilbao Spain to Nigeria, interrupted her voyage and steamed to nearest port, Dakar, Senegal, reaching the port in the afternoon Aug 20.
Crew takes custody of perpetrator
Crew managed to disarm and immobilize perpetrator, locking him in cabin or service compartment.
On arrival to Dakar, wounded seaman was transferred to hospital, perpetrator was arrested and taken to custody.
Tanker left Dakar on Aug 22, and resumed her voyage.
Reason for stabbing
Perpetrator is reportedly, of Filipino nationality. Just for how long is he working on board of tanker? It is highly probably, that his replacement is long overdue, and he suffered a nervous, psychological breakdown.
