Crew Suffers Vision Loss Aboard Tanker

On March 31, a crew member was medevaced from a tanker by the Coast guard after suffering from vision loss.

What happened?

The man was medevaced from the tanker ‘MV Garden State’ after he reported suffering from a vision loss in one eye.

Coast Guard medevacs man

The New Orleans coast guard were notified of the emergency of the tanker which was situated approximately 118 nautical miles southwest of Southwest Pass, Louisiana.

Helicopter dispatched

The Watchstanders directed the MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans and an HC-144 Ocean Sentry fixed-wing aircrew from Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile, Alabama.

The helicopter crew successfully hoisted the patient and transferred him to University Hospital for further treatment and he was reported to be recovering.
