An unresponsive diver who was pulled from a wreck reportedly passed away on July 25, 2017. The diver was exploring the wreck when the incident occurred.
What happened?
The diver who was exploring the wreck of the Italian luxury liner ‘Andrea Doria’ Massachusetts became unresponsive.
The Coast Guard officials who received information about the incident rushed to the scene and assisted in pulling the diver from the wreck. Petty Officer Nicole Groll says the diver was operating off a commercial diving vessel on Monday afternoon.
Medical assistance provided:
An off-duty paramedic on board the Coast Guard vessel performed CPR for two hours as the vessel headed toward Montauk, New York. The diver was rushed to the hospital for medical help but unfortunately was declared dead by a Medical professional on Tuesday.
Investigation launched:
The officials have initiated investigation to determine the cause of the incident. Only after a postmortem report has been obtained the cause of death can be determined.
As many as 16 divers have died over the years exploring the wreck of the Italian luxury liner. It sank in 1956 in about 240 feet of water 50 miles south of Nantucket.
