DNV Sets Sail with Updated Ship Classification Rules

DNV Group CEO Remi Eriksen formally approved the July 2023 edition of the ship classification rules on June 14th, 2023. These rules are set to come into effect on January 1st, 2024.

General information

DNV has introduced significant updates to ship classification rules, incorporating new class notations, complying with external requirements from IACS and IMO, and reflecting market and technology advancements. These changes aim to enhance ship safety and reliability, aligning with international regulations. Additionally, adjustments were made to the rules for underwater technology and high-speed crafts. A separate presentation of rules for offshore units is planned. Customers can seek further details from local DNV offices. The rules may apply to pre-contracted projects upon mutual agreement. DNV releases a major rule edition annually, with the next edition scheduled for July 2024. Occasional amendments may also be made to the rules.
