German freighter conversion firm Elbe Flugzeugwerke (EFW) has delivered the first of three Airbus A321P2F (passenger to freighter) aircraft to Japan, ahead of its use by Japan Airlines (JAL) and Yamato Holdings on a domestic freighter network next year, reports Air Cargo News.

EFW, a joint venture between Singapore-based ST Engineering and France-headquartered Airbus, is converting all three of the A321P2Fs for the network, as reported by Air Cargo News late last year.
“The first of three Airbus A321P2F aircraft for freight forwarder Yamato Transport Co., Ltd. has touched ground in Japan. It will join the fleet of Japan’s No. 1 logistics company in 2024,” said EFW in a LinkedIn post on November 11.
JAL’s low-cost carrier unit, Spring Japan is due to begin operating three Airbus A321 converted freighters in April next year, and will launch with 21 flights a day on four key routes.
The planned flight schedule is between Tokyo (Narita/Haneda) and Kitakyushu, Tokyo (Narita/Haneda) and Sapporo (New-Chitose), Tokyo (Narita) and Okinawa (Naha), and Okinawa (Naha) and Kitakyushu.
Yamato and JAL’s plans to operate a domestic freighter network were first announced in January 2022.
“The operation of the A312P2F conversion freighter will support in the coming years the growing cargo demand,” added EFW in its post.
