Emergency Situation In Cayman Islands Waters

The Cayman Islands Coast Guard received reports regarding a disabled cargo ship drifting towards Little Cayman due to engine malfunction. All crew members aboard the vessel are confirmed safe, reports Saefty4Sea.

Response Efforts

Efforts are underway to coordinate a response to the situation. The Coast Guard has reached out for assistance from nearby vessels, with Aruna Cihan and LEFKES responding promptly. 

Furthermore, a local tug from Grand Cayman is en route to aid in the situation.

Current Status

As of the latest update, the cargo ship remains adrift approximately 20 nautical miles west of Little Cayman. 

Despite efforts to slow its drift using available resources, including generator power, the ship’s engines remain offline. However, the risk of potential grounding in Little Cayman has been mitigated for the time being.
