Engine Room Accident Disables Bulk Carrier

Italian bulk carrier was disabled after an engine room accident, reports Maritime Bulletin.

What happened?

Bulk carrier CHRISTIN suffered an accident in the engine room, in Mediterranean south of Crete, during Sep 11-12, while en route from Damietta Egypt to Barletta Italy. The bulk carrier was loaded with cargo of fertilizers. 

One crew injured

One crew, oiler, was injured and was in need of urgent medical assistance. The ship closed Crete on Sep 12 and the injured crew was airlifted to hospital by Greek Air Force helicopter. 

Voyage resumed

The disabled ship’s problem was fixed and she resumed her voyage. 

CHRISTIN resumed voyage at around 1300 UTC Sep 12. Character of trouble unknown, maybe explosion.
