Chief Engineer Suffers Burn Injuries After an Engine Room Fire

On July 30, a fire on board the general cargo ship “ISE BARU” critically injured the chief engineer.

According to reports, the vessel was docked in Tanjung Perak port, East Java when the fire erupted on board the vessel due to an engine room explosion at around 1030 LT July 30.

The chief engineer who suffered third degree burns threw himself in the water where he was rescued and taken to hospital.

Tugs were deployed in fire fighting, 15 crew were evacuated.  Vessel was about to set sail, bound for North Borneo with cargo of general goods.  No information on vessel’s damages. Authorities reportedly started investigating the root cause of the accident.
