Swedish shipping company Erik Thun has ordered another LNG-powered tanker at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Yangzhou, reports LNGPrime.

The tenth dual-fuel tanker

Following delivery in 2024, the 17,999-dwt dual-fuel tanker would become the tenth in the Vinga series, according to a statement by Erik Thun on Monday.

Earlier this year, Swedish shipowner Furetank ordered the ninth vessel in this series at the same Chinese yard.

Furetank already owns four and commercially operates all of eight FKAB-designed ice-class product and chemical tankers under Sweden’s Gothia Tanker Alliance.

Erik Thun said that would Furetank would technically and commercially manage this newbuild as well.

The ship would be a sister vessel to the 2018-built Thun Venern, operated by Erik Thun’s unit Thun Tankers.

About the vessels

Dual-fuel capability

All the vessels in the series have dual-fuel capability and use LNG or LBG as fuel.

Low fuel and energy consumption

They feature a battery hybrid solution and other tech that reduces fuel and energy consumption resulting in “extensively” lower emissions.

Reduce emissions

The new ship would also be fully equipped to operate cargo pumps with shore power, to reduce emissions even further as soon as ports will offer the opportunity, Erik Thun said.

Cargo capacity

It has a cargo capacity of 20,306 cubic meters in 12 epoxy coated cargo tanks.

Erik Thun did not reveal the price tag of the new order.
